ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Anne and I’m a professional miniature painter, writer, and paint line designer. I love to paint and I love to talk and write about paint, and that's why we're here!

Reaper Miniatures hired me on waaaay back in 2003 to be their in-house staff painter, and also to create a new paint line for them. Did you know that Reaper is the only miniatures company to make our own paint in-house? In my job for them, I concepted and named the colors, created the initial formulas and batches, and mixed Master Series Paint from the ground up on a day-to-day basis. This fundamental understanding of the paint and how and why it works informs my Patreon, Twitch, and YouTube content now that I’m on my own making a living as a freelance creator. I still work part-time for Reaper, doing their morning show on Twitch, and you can read about that more below!

WHERE DO I FIND THE DIFFERENT CONTENT ON WHAT YOU DO?

TWITCH: twitch.tv/paintingbig . My Twitch is a one-day only affair on my private channel; we stream every Saturday from around 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm USA Central time. On my own stream, I typically work on bigger models like busts or 75mm models from various manufacturers.

I also stream on twitch.tv/reaperminiatures every weekday except for holidays (and vacations!) at 11:30 am USA Central time. On the Reaper streams, we paint six different models in rotation, so each day during a given week is a different model. The models are almost all 28mm and all are Reaper models.

YOUTUBE: PaintingBig on YouTube . In late 2021 I launched a new monthly series of short videos to cover the fundamentals of miniature painting. I often get asked for advice on basic techniques, and thought that this would give me a solid resource to be able to point new painters to. I also felt that it would inform my Patreon, as with a solid grasp of the underlying techniques any of the specialized topics I cover there can be much more accessible. Prior to this point the YouTube was largely a holding area for my Twitch VODs, but I decided I’d like to rebrand it a bit in a helpful manner moving forward.

OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA: If you follow me on my Instagram #paintingbig, or on my Twitter @paintingbig, you’ll get to see pictures of the latest stuff I’ve finished or that I’m working on.

PATREON: The Patreon is the thing I really love and of course it has its own page here on the web site—if you go over there, you can read about examples of topics I’ve covered on each tier, to see which one might be right for you! You can find the Patreon itself at www.patreon.com/paintingbig.

I’ve also got a Discord server for Patrons to hang out and chat with me and each other on. We have a great time on there, and people are so helpful and friendly! It also lets me answer questions and give feedback when requested. :) Many tiers get their own channels, and I can post some stuff on there that I can’t on the Patreon or my regular social media (mostly not-safe-for-work stuff, or maybe future competition entries that I don’t want to spread all over the internet).

DO YOU TEACH IN PERSON? CAN I BUY OR COMMISSION MODELS PAINTED BY YOU?

I teach annually at the ReaperCon convention in Denton, Texas over Labor Day weekend, and at our local KublaCon convention here in the Bay Area over the Memorial Day weekend.

As we emerge into a pandemic stage that makes it possible, I am potentially open to doing one-day or two-day seminars based in the USA or Canada if a group is willing to pay to bring me in. I usually ask around $125 per person for a one-day seminar and $250 per person for a two-day seminar. My optimal teaching time frame is 9:30 am to 5:30 pm with a break for lunch. My optimal number of students is 10. If you are interested in being the organizer for such a class, you can email me at painting.big1{at]gmail and we can discuss timing, subject matter, and so on.

I do take commissions, though I am currently full-up headed into 2022. I may have a slot or two opening at the end of 2022.

I do sell some of my painted models. First chance at them is reserved for my Patrons (anyone subscribed to my Patreon has the opportunity to bid in a public auction when a model goes up for sale).
